Hygiene Awareness

Education in the principles of Hygiene control are an essential part of the BRC requirements for those companies manufacturing and supplying food grade packaging. Although there are many public courses available which are aimed at food producers, it will be difficult to find any which are wholly relevant to the type of manufacturing environment found within packaging companies. We have therefore developed some training options to assist companies to quickly and easily apply a satisfactory level of hygiene awareness to their employees.

Hygiene Awareness training in-house
For companies wishing to carry out their own training, IHC have developed a CD-ROM format which can be used for either individuals or groups.

Individual tuition will allow companies to provide a suitable level of training to new employees at any time prior to them starting work instead of waiting until a group can be brought together for a formal presentation.

The economics of individual staff training, using the spare time of personnel, will be readily apparent to any Company Manager tasked with arranging groups of workers outside normal shift hours. Co-ordination of individual training could also be devolved to Team Leaders if required, as the expertise is inherent within the programme rather than an individual.

Suitably linked to a projector, the CD's may also be used for group presentations if required. Alternatively, the course can be supplied as a series of transparencies for an OHP at no extra cost.

CD1: Induction training.
An induction into hygiene requirements within a manufacturing environment. This is aimed at new company staff as part of their general induction. It will satisfy the BRC/IoP packaging standard requirements for general hygiene training within Category 2 and 3 companies, and refresher training for Category 1. The presentation concludes with an optional examination which, when successfully navigated, will produce an individual training record which can be retained in the personnel files.

CD2: Basic training.
Suitable for Category 1 companies.
This training is designed for personnel working under Category 1 conditions and fulfils the BRC/IoP packaging standard requirements for formal basic training. This CD goes into greater depth on hygiene issues than the induction training. The presentation concludes with an examination which, when successfully navigated, will produce an individual training record which can be retained in the personnel files.

On-site Hygiene Awareness training by IHC
National Foundation Level Training for Course Presenters
1 day (7 hour) course held at client's premises.
Personnel responsible for delivering hygiene training to other company staff should be qualified to an appropriately higher level. Where companies wish to present training to groups of workers, we would recommend that the tutor holds certification to a nationally recognised Basic Food Hygiene (Level 1) standard. This is also applies anyone in the company who, through the nature of their work, requires a more advanced level of hygiene awareness.

IHC are approved for the provision of such courses and would deliver the training at your own site, followed by an examination, which for the successful candidate yields a qualification issued by an accredited organisation (RSPH, CIEH or REHIS).

Training for Production personnel
If required, International HACCP Certification Ltd., can present training for Production personnel at the company's own premises, or at an alternative venue arranged by them. This course essentially covers the material contained in the training CD's.

Induction level: Category 2 or 3 companies
1 day (Multiple one-hour sessions)
Covers the key rules that all workers must apply to ensure compliance to the BRC packaging standard. This training takes approximately 1 hour per group and multiple sessions can be arranged to suit shift patterns. A certificate will be issued containing the names of all personnel who have attended the training sessions.

Basic level: Category 1 companies
1 day (Multiple two-hour sessions)
The Category 1 "in depth" training session provided by IHC will be approximately 2 hours in duration and up to three sessions can usually be arranged within a day. It is intended to make each employee aware of the importance of hygiene and their role in preventing contamination. It is recommended that a maximum of 26 delegates attend each presentation, which will contain:

  • Introduction to hygiene.
  • Preventing product contamination.
  • Background to the Food Hygiene Regulations. (UK)
  • The individual's responsibility.
  • Your company's role in the food chain.

A short examination will conclude the presentation. This will enable both the course effectiveness and delegate performance to be assessed. International HACCP Certification Ltd will issue a group certificate listing all delegates who have successfully completed the training.
